We started our winter solstice fire outside with focused heat from the sun, then carried it inside to start our winter fire.
Below, Marley and Geneva start the fire with a fresnel lens (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fresnel_lens):
Geneva is using her fingers to focus her breath to breath life into the fire.
Together we all focused on our gratitude for the sun in the shortest time of the year and our anticipation of rains yet to come and quench our land’s deep thirst.
Marley is supposed to be wearing sunglasses over his eyes to protect them from the intense focused sunlight of the fresnel lens. Sunglasses are highly recommended when using a fresnel lens or other magnifying device to focus the sun’s rays…
Please supervise children with fresnel lenses.
